I fleshed out the introduction of my report more to include details about
what network maps are and why they are important. I also rewrote my
evaluation section to discuss the feedback more, opposed to just listing
what the participants said. I am almost finished now. Just a few changes
here and there. Thanks to Richard and Shane for all their help improving the
structure and content.
I spent this week getting my first draft for my 520 report completed. Sent
it away on Wednesday and got some good feedback from Richard and Shane. I
plan on having a second draft done by mid next week, after the 518 test on
MPLS/BGP test was this week and I finished off the last assignment for 514
which means I am now all done with that paper.
Writing, writing, writing for the rest of the week. My goal is to have my
first complete 520 report draft done by mid next week, so that I have a
couple weeks to make improvements.
I finished off the COMP518 penetration testing assignment this week. Managed
to get root access to two of the machines. The windows XP firewall being
disabled helped a lot :-)
I also started writing the implementation section for my honours report. I
wrote up a few questions to be sent to Karen and Jaime to help out with the
evaluation section later on.
I managed to fall ill again on Monday which knocked me out for a few days. Started actually writing my final 520 report at the end of this week. Very momentous!
Also did a little hacking on vulnerable machines (in a virtual environment) for Comp518. I have managed to get root access on one of the machines so far. I should be able to on two other machines too based on some application versions.

This was another week spent mostly on assignments. One of which was setting up a VOIP system. The lab includes a set of virtual machines connected to 4 Cisco IP phones. It got quite interesting in the Interactive Voice Response part. I didn't realise it was that easy to setup, especially considering Asterisk comes with a bunch of sample audio files.
I haven't started writing my 520 report yet. I plan on starting this weekend and working a lot on it next week because I should have a break before we get the next set of assignments.
It was a busy week in terms of tests and assignments. I spent most of the
week trying to catch up with those. I did a bit of planning for the chapters
in my 520 report in more detail.
The 520 honours conference was on Wednesday. Overall I really enjoyed the day. I think my presentation went well. I ended up winning runner up best project award.
I had two interviews this week. One of which was down in Wellington where Braden works. Was cool to catch up with him and see how their company works.
Prepared a presentation for the Wednesday practice run. Got lots of helpful feedback from which I pretty much remade a new presentation from scratch. Just need to practice it lots before this Wednesday and it should go well.
Brendon helped me build up an example (real) VLAN for Karen. I hope to get something working before the presentation on Wednesday so I can make it part of my demonstration.
