Purposes of the study

The study has two major purposes:

• evaluating the accuracy of ping and tcpdump in terms of measuring packet wire round-trip times (covered in Chapter 4);
• identifying significant patterns of short term high density ping traffic and interpreting them (covered in Chapter 5).
